Saving files in Adobe Illustrator (best practice)

To maximize the chances that others can use your Adobe Illustrator files, please follow these instructions when saving:

  1. Save a copy of the figure to EPS (Encapsulated Postscript) format by choosing the "File|Save As" menu item and choosing the "Illustrator EPS (*.EPS)" choice in the pull down next to the "Save as Type" text (see following figure).

  2. You will next see a window titled "EPS Format Options" (or a similar title).
  3. Under "Compatability" choose "Version 8.0".
  4. Under "Preview" for "Format" choose "None".
  5. Make sure "Include Document Thumbnails" is chosen.
  6. Make sure "Include Document Fonts" is chosen.
  7. For "PostScript" choose "Level 2".
